Euan learning guitar

Euan Morton does indeed have a sensational voice. It can be tender and intimate in one setting and grand and heroic in another.
Honestly, I want the whole world to hear him sing. That’s the reason (full disclosure) that Euan is on my record label, Lyric Partners.
His brand new album, Caledonia – The Homecoming was just released, and I couldn't be more excited about it. I had the pleasure of being in the studio while Euan recorded the songs for this album, and I was amazed at his ability to give his all consistently throughout the process. The resulting collection of songs is stellar.

Euan is a native of Scotland, and this new album is a celebration of the music he grew up with and the music that reminds him of home today. Many of the songs are familiar, but these honest interpretations give them new life.
Euan received an Olivier Award nomination for originating the role of Boy George in the musical Taboo in London. He was asked to move to New York in 2003 to reprise the role on Broadway and won the Theatre World Award for Outstanding Broadway Debut for that performance. He was also nominated for a Tony Award, the Drama Desk Award, the Outer Critics Circle Award, and the Drama League Award.
In addition to continuing to work in the theatre to great acclaim, Euan has released two solo albums, NewClear and Caledonia – The Homecoming. He has appeared in concert all over the country and is known for his remarkable voice and his charming stage presence.
My absolute favorite song from the new album is Kiteflyers’ Hill, which was written by Mark E. Nevins. Euan steps into this song, inhabits it and takes us with him. Jon Carroll’s beautiful piano accompaniment is sublime.
Euan performs three songs by Robert Burns on the new album, and my favorite of the three is Ae Fond Kiss. Such a sweet melody and so beautifully executed. Jim Roberts’ guitar playing on this track is perfect.

Euan learning guitarScotland native Euan Morton may be the most gifted male vocalist to have emerged from the musical theatre in the new millennium. The singing actor made his Broadway debut in Taboo, earning a 2004 Tony nomination for his performance as Boy George, the much-in-the-news singer and composer who rose to fame and international acclaim in the 80s via the pop group Culture Club. Morton, a Theatre World Award winner for his Broadway bow, is one of the few singers comfortable performing any genre of music: he tackled the songs of Boy George in the aforementioned Taboo, scored in a Town Hall evening of show tunes, and on his debut solo recording, NewClear, he thrillingly performs a host of new and classic pop-rock tunes.

Morton boasts a smooth, rich tenor that he skillfully uses in the ten tracks that comprise the Lyric Partners release. On this disc his singing is reminiscent of two pop-music icons: Morton sings with the simple straightforwardness of Paul Simon and the open-heartedness of the late Karen Carpenter. His vocal delivery is never too much nor too little-he seems to find the perfect way to perform this eclectic collection of tunes.

"Scotland native Euan Morton may be the most gifted male vocalist to have emerged from the musical theatre in the new millennium"

Euan learning guitarThe high point of the recording is Morton's beautiful rendition of Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah,' which he begins with tender tones and builds to a full-voiced climax. It's a truly moving, haunting performance, perhaps the final word on this much-performed 80s ballad.

Other highlights include the title track, 'NewClear,' which was penned by Mark Underwood; the catchy 'Closer & Closer,' written by Chris Judge and Greg Friel; Dan Bern's 'Chelsea Hotel,' which asserts that "new love is beautiful but new love is sad"; a powerful version of William P. McCord's heartbreaker 'At This Moment' and 'Pie in the Sky,' a tune from Boy George's Tony-nominated Taboo score
